Bring your green pool back to life with the right steps and a bit of persistence. Algae growth usually means poor circulation or low sanitiser levels, so it’s important to tackle both the cause and the cleanup.

Start by checking your equipment—make sure the pump is running properly, the chlorinator is producing chlorine, and the filter is clean and functioning. Without proper circulation and filtration, clearing a green pool will be difficult.

Next, brush all pool surfaces thoroughly to break up algae on the walls, floor, and steps. This helps chemicals work more effectively.

Once the pool is prepped:

  • Add a strong dose of chlorine to kill algae and bacteria

  • Apply algaecide to help eliminate and prevent further growth

  • Use a clarifier to bind fine particles together for easier filtration

After treatment, run your pump continuously for at least 24 hours to circulate chemicals and filter out contaminants.

As the water begins to clear, vacuum the pool thoroughly until you can clearly see the bottom, removing any remaining debris and dead algae.

Finally, clean or backwash your filter regularly during the process, as it will quickly clog with algae and debris.
