In-floor cleaning
An in-floor cleaning system is a built-in, automated pool cleaning system designed to keep the entire pool clean with minimal manual effort. It works by using the pool’s circulation system to move water and debris in a controlled pattern across the pool floor.
Water is drawn from the pool through the skimmer, main drain, and sometimes dedicated debris collection ports. This water is pulled through the pump, where it is pressurised, and then pushed through the filtration system (such as a cartridge, sand, or centrifugal filter) to remove fine particles.
After filtration, the clean water is directed into a specialised in-floor distribution module (often called a valve or water management system). Inside this module is a gear-driven or hydraulic mechanism that rotates and controls water flow. It sends pressurised water to different zones of the pool one at a time.
Each zone consists of multiple pop-up cleaning heads installed flush with the pool floor, steps, and sometimes walls. When a zone is activated, the cleaning heads in that section rise up under water pressure and spray high-pressure streams of water in a pre-set direction. These jets are carefully positioned to work together, pushing dirt, leaves, and debris along the pool floor in a planned path.
The debris is directed toward the main drain, channel drain, or a dedicated debris canister, depending on the system design. As one zone finishes its cycle, the module automatically switches to the next zone, ensuring full pool coverage. This sequencing continues until all zones have been activated, completing one full cleaning cycle.
The system not only removes debris but also improves overall water circulation by eliminating dead spots, helping distribute chemicals evenly and maintaining consistent water temperature.
In-floor systems are highly efficient and discreet since all components are built into the pool. They reduce the need for manual vacuuming and external cleaners, though periodic maintenance is still required, such as emptying debris canisters, checking pop-up heads for wear, and ensuring the module is operating correctly.

Key Benefits:
1. Hands-Free Cleaning
The system automatically circulates water and moves dirt, leaves, and debris toward the debris removal drain. This reduces or eliminates the need for manual vacuuming or robotic cleaners.2. Superior Water Circulation
Since the jets are located throughout the pool floor, they improve circulation from the bottom up. This helps distribute heat and chemicals more evenly, reducing cold spots and creating a healthier, more balanced swimming environment.3. Enhanced Energy & Chemical Efficiency
Improved circulation means the pool requires fewer chemicals and less energy to maintain ideal water quality. Homeowners can enjoy lower operational costs over the life of the pool.4. Cleaner Pool Surfaces Year-Round
In-floor systems continually remove dirt from steps, slopes, benches, and the main pool floor. This prevents debris buildup and keeps surfaces cleaner, clearer, and more visually appealing.5. Reduced Wear on Pool Equipment
Because the system helps keep water well-mixed and debris-free, it lightens the load on the pool pump and filtration system. This can extend the lifespan of filters, heaters, and other equipment.6. Aesthetically Seamless Design
Unlike robotic or suction-side cleaners, in-floor systems are built directly into the pool. There are no hoses, cords, or visible devices cluttering the water—just a clean, unobstructed pool.7. Increases Long-Term Home Value
New pools with in-floor cleaning systems are considered premium installations. Homebuyers appreciate the automation, lower maintenance needs, and long-term savings, making the pool a more valuable asset.
