SPR – Standard Plant Room Guide
Polsen’s Pools
This standard outlines the correct procedures for maintaining your pool’s plant room to ensure optimal performance, water clarity, and equipment longevity. Always operate equipment carefully and follow each step to avoid damage.
Emptying the Skimmer Basket
Regularly cleaning the skimmer basket helps maintain strong water flow and prevents blockages.
Steps:
Turn the pump off at the power source
Locate the skimmer box (usually at the pool edge)
Remove the lid and lift out the basket
Empty all leaves, debris, and dirt
Rinse the basket with a hose if needed
Reinsert the basket securely
Replace the lid firmly
Emptying the Pump Basket
Keeping the pump basket clean ensures proper circulation and prevents strain on the system.
Steps:
Turn the pump off before opening
Close any valves if applicable to prevent water loss
Unscrew and remove the pump lid
Carefully remove the basket and empty debris
Rinse the basket clean
Important: Check the O-ring on the lid
Ensure it is clean, seated correctly, and not damaged
This is critical to maintain a proper seal and allow the pump to hold prime
Refill the pump housing with water if needed
Reinstall the basket and securely tighten the lid
Turn the pump back on and check for leaks or air bubbles
Backwashing the Filter
Backwashing removes built-up dirt from your filter and keeps it operating efficiently.
Steps:
Turn the pump off before adjusting the multiport valve
Set the valve to BACKWASH
Turn the pump on and run until the sight glass water runs clear
Turn the pump off
Set the valve to RINSE
Turn the pump on and run for 20–30 seconds
Turn the pump off
Return the valve to FILTER
Turn the pump back on and resume normal operation
Important Notes:
Always turn the pump off before every rotation of the multiport handle
Never force the valve handle
Monitor the sight glass during backwashing to ensure water clarity
Chlorinator & System Advice
Refer to your chlorinator manual for correct settings and operation
Regularly check output levels to maintain balanced sanitation
If unsure about settings or operation, avoid adjusting unfamiliar controls
