Using the correct PVC fittings is essential for building an efficient, reliable, and long-lasting pool plumbing system. The right fitting helps maintain good water flow, reduces pressure loss, and makes the system easier to service and maintain.

45° Elbows
A 45° elbow is used whenever the direction of the pipe needs to change gradually. They create less resistance than a sharp 90° bend, making them ideal on both suction and return lines where maintaining water flow is important. Two 45° elbows are often preferred over a single 90° elbow for smoother hydraulics.

90° Elbows
A standard 90° elbow is used where a tight change of direction is required and space is limited. While practical, they create more resistance than a 45° fitting, so they should be used only when necessary, particularly on suction pipework.

Sweep 90° Elbows (Long Radius Bends)
Sweep elbows have a larger radius than a standard 90° elbow, allowing water to change direction more smoothly. They are recommended on main drain lines, skimmer lines, and other high-flow plumbing where minimising friction loss and improving hydraulic efficiency is important.

Tee (T) Fittings
Tee fittings are used to split one pipeline into two or combine two pipelines into one. They are commonly used to connect multiple skimmers, return lines, water features, or equipment bypasses. The direction of water flow should always be considered to minimise turbulence and maintain balanced flow.

Reducers
Reducers are used when transitioning between different pipe sizes, such as from 80mm to 50mm or 50mm to 40mm. They should be installed where required to maintain consistent flow and properly match equipment connections.
